Cruise - Day 11 - 13 Sep

Happy 26th Birthday James! Sorry we weren't there to celebrate with you...again. Hope you had a good one.

Where else in the world can you be striding along on a treadmill and see whales frolicking just outside the window? Here on the Dawn Princess, that's where! Well, everyone else saw them – I was too engrossed in the documentary on Captain James Cook on the little screen on the treadmill to notice until the cry of “Whale!” went up just in time for me to see a splash of water as it disappeared into the depths of the Indian Ocean. At least that little experience kept me on the treadmill for 40 minutes waiting for another “sighting” which never eventuated...oh well, every cloud has a silver lining.

We arrived in the port of Broome around lunch time and observed a very fancy manoeuvre by the captain of our vessel as he sort of reverse parked (or was it a three point turn?) the ship at the pier with the aid of a very strong tug!

There was some sort of hold up with the authorities and all the shore excursions started late. I won't bore you with all the gory details, suffice it to say that Gary was not impressed with the wait on the pier in 35 degree heat. It also meant that we were delayed in arriving into town after our “Top Deck” bus tour so we missed the chance to go to Cable Beach to witness the sunset. Apparently this is a sight to behold, but behold it we didn't. Gaz was extremely “disappointed” - those of you who know him well know what that means!

Anyway, besides all of that we got to see the general area of Broome on the bus which was quite fascinating. All the houses are made of tin (colour bond), the dirt is very red, the water is very blue, and the tide moved 10 metres in about 6 hours! Did I also mention it was very hot?! No seriously, it was very nice.

After returning to the ship at about 6.30pm Gaz did some washing and ate a lot of chocolate peanuts (yep, still very “disappointed”) and I grabbed a bite to eat at the buffet and then watched a movie in the ship's theatre. It was very apt as it was primarily filmed in Broome -Bran Nue Dae – and was actually quite funny.

The whole evening was topped off with a viewing of The Hangover on the TV in our cabin – always a fantastic experience. All in all a pretty good day.

At sea tomorrow, then off to Bali!

Hello again,
Go you mighty Tigers. You probably already know the result but they beat the Raiders in the Capital before a record crowd of more that 27,000 in freezing conditions. The game was a cracker and ver even. Croaker missed an easy penalty goal which would have sent the game into golden point extra time but the Tigers held on after the miss and won 24-22 so they play the Dragons next weekend. The Roosters play the Panthers tonight so we'll see who plays the Titans to see who progresses into the Grand Final on the October Holiday weekend, Sunday 3rd.

Not much news from this end. Keep having a great time. I'll now read days 12, 13 & 14. Slack arent I?
Cheers
