Blue Sky! Until there was a heavy shower of rain … but that
only lasted 20 minutes or so, and the blue sky returned. Maz, Kev, Wayne, Vicky
and I headed to Emu Park, about 10 minutes from our caravan park, for a walk
along the beach. Gaz also headed there but that was to buy some supplies for
dinner. It was a lovely walk and then we strolled through the small town of Emu
Park, where we were all very impressed, saying we’d like to come back sometime.
They are having a big festival tomorrow with kite flying and other carnival
type activities, so we might check it out … though I saw one kite flying today
and said something along the lines of “you see one kite, you’ve seen ‘em all.”
This, of course, is probably not strictly true.
We then found a fabulous picnic spot at another nearby beach and enjoyed our time there, trying to name the various islands off the coast – Great Keppel, North Keppel, Pumpkin Island – whatever. It all looked spectacular. There was a very cool Anzac Memorial there where you look through a transparent painting at this coastline to imagine what it would be like at Gallipoli – very clever.
We found a lookout spot to get an even better view of the coastline and then drove into Yeppoon to check out the Yeppoon Lagoon, a fabulous man-made facility – lots of pools and right on the beach. On the way home there was more sight-seeing – Wreck Bay, Keppel Bay Marina, Rosslyn Bay Harbour (where the Great Keppel ferry leaves from), Kemp Beach (where a very expensive yacht has run aground and was a great tourist attraction), and then back to the cabin.
It was our turn to cook, and Gaz did a great job on the barbie, ably assisted by Chef Kev. After dinner it was Round 2 of Trivia and this time the girls were victorious 9-8 (they should have listened to Gaz about Fanny Durack!). Wayne and Vicky had an early night and the rest of us played Euchre where the boys very luckily pipped Maz and I for the win. We have another day here, but the others are moving on, as scheduled, to Hervey Bay tomorrow. Alone again, naturally.
