Day 20 – Koorana Crocodile Farm

By the time we poked our heads out of the cabin, both other couples had scarpered. We, of course, are still in our holding pattern waiting to get the windscreen wipers operable after 15 excruciating days of them not working. Our first challenge was when we took off this morning – the dew had coated the windscreen and when we turned towards the sun, we were blinded – could not see a thing! Gaz had to stop in his tracks and then pour some water over the windscreen before we could depart. Hopefully this nightmare will be over soon, and we can stop obsessively following the weather forecast.

First stop was the Koorana Crocodile Farm, about 25 minutes away. We have never been to a crocodile farm before and really enjoyed it. There was a bit of a talk, photo display, video presentation, and then we headed outside to meet the critters face to face. It was really great – very informative – we were told the most important thing to remember is that saltwater crocs are found in freshwater! At the end we all got to hold a six-month-old small croc which was very cool.

Having enjoyed that experience immensely, we headed into Yeppoon where we enjoyed a delightful lunch at the Keppel Bay Sailing Club. The whole vibe of Yeppoon reminds me a lot of Mooloolaba. After lunch we walked the esplanade and checked out the shops then took a drive to have a look around. It’s a very hilly place once you get back from the beach.

A quiet afternoon at the cabin before I decided to take a stroll – Vicky had told me about a path up behind the caravan park in some wetlands. Just wandered up there for about 30 minutes or so, just before sunset – very nice. After our big lunch, we were happy with snacks for dinner – toast and the like. Fingers crossed we’re moving on tomorrow with a fully functioning motor vehicle.
