With a drive of about 600km ahead of us we planned to get an early start. Having packed much of the car the night before, we were able to be on the road soon after 8am, retracing our steps through the Adelaide suburbs, and up into the hills, to head for Victoria. We had really enjoyed our time in South Aus, but it was time to move on. Our next audio book beckoned!
Our first stop was Meningie, about 2 hours into our journey. We visited a craft shop, a café and had a bit of a look at the park on the shores of Lake Albert. It looked like a nice spot.
Considering all the confusion surrounding Kingston, we thought we had better explore the place, about 3 and a half hours travel time into the trip. To be honest, the resounding opinion of the group seems to be that the ‘mistake’ worked in our favour – we are not sure what we would have done there for 2 days…they did have a nice lighthouse…and a big lobster...
Pressing on after a quick bite to eat, we stopped a little further on at Millicent for petrol, continued on through Mount Gambier and Nelson, and then finally arrived in Port Fairy about 5:30pm. After quickly unpacking, it was off to the shops to buys stuff for dinner and then, after Kevin and Marion arrived at about 6:45pm, (they stopped a bit more than us), we made an awesome dinner, knocked off a bottle or two of wine and then fell into bed, ready to continue our adventures tomorrow. Unfortunately, it looks like the honeymoon is over and rain is forecast for the next few days…which is a shame as the little bit we saw of Port Fairy looks great. Cycling and golf are tentatively planned for tomorrow, before the big rains hit.
