Road Trip 2017 – Day 8 – Adelaide Shores

After such a warm day yesterday, it was a welcome relief to wake up to much cooler weather this morning. It was a bit breezy, and a touch cloudy, but no sign of rain which bode well for our planned golf game.

So off to golf we went. It was a beautiful course at Adelaide Shores and I’d have to say they have the nicest fairways I can recall playing on. (Having said that, my golfing career is somewhat limited!) One of the early highlights was Gary appearing to hit a bird in mid-air on the 1st  hole, and of course, claiming the first ‘birdie’ of the day. #groan. My game was the usual 3 bad shots, 1 good one, and my greatest claim to fame was that I didn’t lose a ball all round, no mean feat for me!

Generally, we really enjoyed the golf. Everyone played well (at times) – how can you ask for more?

It was then back to the caravan park for a late lunch, followed by some more relaxing and reading. The wind outside didn’t encourage too much outside activity. I was feeling a bit of cabin fever and went for a walk along the beach which was very enjoyable. It was high tide this time so looked very different to our walk yesterday…and there were waves!

We decided we would eat out and found a fantastic Greek restaurant at the Pier at Glenelg – so yummy – we had a great night. Just look at our dessert share plate!

The big news of the day…and I’m saying up front here that we are regarding this as somewhat of an adventure, not the disaster some less optimistic travellers may regard it to be. It all started last night when we were at a restaurant in Adelaide eating dinner. Kevin said, ‘my GPS says it will only take 40 minutes to reach our next destination.’ Gary replied, ‘That can’t be right. Kingston is three and a half hours away.’ We scrambled for the spreadsheet I had prepared with all our stops, addresses, km, phone numbers etc and discovered that Gary had booked a caravan park at Kingston Park, Adelaide, about 11km from where we are currently staying, instead of Kingston SE, a small coastal town on the way to Victoria. I won’t bore you with the details of the phone calls that followed to the Kingston Park caravan park who showed no sympathy at our error and said they will charge the full amount if we cancel the booking. This was a little disappointing as they admitted that they are fully booked and turning people away. Yet, there was no mercy! We have discussed this over the last 24 hours and have decided we will stay there, mainly to make sure ‘the thieving bastards don’t get our money and then book it again!’

It will be fine – we will just have a six and a half hour journey to Port Fairy on Sunday – we can start our new audio book! Also, we have more time to spend around Adelaide and have planned a day in the Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale as well as a boat ride on the Torrens tomorrow – sometimes these things happen for a reason.
