Day 4 – Jindera & Albury Foreshore

Another blue sky greeted us this morning, though it was a little chillier than we have been used to – it got all the way down to 18 degrees overnight! It was a leisurely start and we headed off a bit before 10am to Jindera, a small town about 15 minutes outside Albury. We stocked up on bread rolls for our picnic lunch, supporting the local bakery and then travelled a short distance down the road to the Jindera Pioneer Museum. This was a bit similar to yesterday’s museum at Holbrook but was much better. Some great exhibits outlining the history of the town as well as how the early settlers lived and worked. There was a very friendly volunteer who welcomed us and answered questions. It seemed like a really nice town too.

Our next stop was the Noreuil Park Foreshore on the banks of the Murray back in Albury. What a beautiful spot. After a coffee at the lovely café we set up our picnic at a table in the park and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. It looks like a popular spot. While we didn’t go in for a dip we asked a dripping passerby what it was like and he hesitated and then replied, “Ummm … refreshing!”

After lunch we headed into the shopping area of Albury where Gaz had to visit Gazman and get some emergency shorts (the old ones apparently becoming too ragged in the last three days) and grab some fruit. While Gaz took care of that, I walked the main street and popped into a couple of shops … but no shorts replacement for me!

We had all decided on a quiet afternoon and Gaz & Maz had a snooze, I read a book and Kev caught up on a TV show. Just what the doctor ordered! Jordan, Kev & Maz’s daughter had recommended an Italian restaurant – Norma’s – and the earliest we could get in was 8pm. Taking a leaf out of our kid’s playbook in their teens we pre-loaded and hit the wine at 5pm. Early Euchre was called for – Kev/Maz v Pen/Gaz – you guessed it 1-1 so everyone is even. We also managed to fit in a round of quoits (we found then near the front porch on the way out) and after 4 rounds I was the winner – I’ll have to sneak out early tomorrow to practise so I can retain my crown.

Dinner was very nice, though perhaps not quite living up to the hype (sorry Jordan) though Gaz did exclaim over the tiramisu. We ordered four different pastas and shared which I thought was a great idea. Back home by 9:30pm, coffee/tea and everyone seemed pretty keen to hit the hay. More big plans for tomorrow!
