Big sleep in this morning! I was so tired I slept until after 8am – that never happens. Everyone else slept in as well so it was a late start for all. I decided it was time to do some laundry and, after sending photos to Carly to get some advice on how to use a front loader, I managed to get it working in under half an hour. Slight problem when at the end of the cycle there were still visible suds, but another rinse cycle fixed that. Quickly hung it all out and then got ready for our outing.
We were off
to Healseville Sanctuary, a wildlife sanctuary only about 15 minutes away. Gaz
was particularly excited as he was deemed to be special and got a concession
while we were only ‘seniors’. Those health care cards really do pay off! We
checked out the dingoes and a couple of other exhibits and then it was on to
the bird show which was sensational. Very clever birds and handlers! Maz and I then
travelled around checking out koalas, reptiles, parrots, koalas, platypus and
the animal hospital while Gaz & Kev had a coffee. Actually I should be
honest – Kev saw a couple of those things too after coffee while Gaz was at the
shop.
We had a
very pleasant 2 hours there but then dashed into Healesville town to have a
birthday lunch for Maz – it was almost 2pm by this stage and we didn’t want to
miss out. The Watt River Café was selected, and we had fabulous meals there. It
was like fine dining standard in food and service but café prices. Really,
really nice food. I had twice cooked pork belly that was to die for.
Wandered the
shops for a while and then headed to a chocolate place for a quick look. OMG –
it was packed with hundreds of people, cars everywhere, a line up to get in! Suffice
it to say we drove on and plan to head back another day when we get a chance
and hopefully a weekday is a better option.
Back at home
and it was a cup of tea and a wine then Maz and I tried out her knew Australian
Bird Cards Gaz & I gave her for her birthday (purchased from Winton
Wetlands). It was like ‘Go Fish’ but you say ‘Go birding’ instead lol. Maz then
rounded up the troops for Finska which we played on the front lawn – three rounds
with a win each to Maz, Gaz & Pen. It was then back inside for a simple
evening meal of Turkish bread melts as we still weren’t massively hungry after our
awesome lunch.
After dinner
it was Euchre with Kev/Pen v Gaz/Maz and, you guessed it 1-1. We actually watched
the TV news for the first time in a week – we might go back into our bubble –
news is way too depressing.
